Okay, this is an unusual and recursive post for me, but I encourage anyone interested in the juggernaut that is Google to block 20 minutes and read the New Yorker article about Google's book-scanning activities. See this page for the full article (first of two pages, to be precise), and ponder themes that apply for domains such as YouTube content as well as book-scanning. E.g., the article includes speculation that nobody else will be able to do book-scanning on the same scale as Google, if Google enters into a licensing agreement with book publishers, as nobody else is likely to have the financial leverage Google currently enjoys.
Timely reality check on Google's book-scanning strategy.
