Getting kind of deeply nested…
Seattle-based Mozy, a data storage service owned by EMC, has been 'acquired' by VMware, a provider of virtualization software.
The deal is a little complex, given that Mozy and VMware are both essentially owned by parent company EMC (Mozy is wholly owned by EMC, which also owns 80 percent of VMware's shares). VMware said that it has hired the Mozy team and acquired the assets behind Mozy's cloud-based data protection service. The Palo Alto-based company said it will operate the Mozy service on behalf of EMC without interruption to Mozy customers.
