More Apple-versus-Amazon analysis. Apparently the book publishers have missed the part about Apple dictating terms to music publishers, among others.
The post goes on to say, “We don’t believe that all of the major publishers will take the same route as Macmillan,” but given Amazon’s rapid folding act, it’s hard to see why not. Five of publishing’s Big 6 are already on board with Apple’s agency plan, and if, for the sake of keeping control of prices, they want the same deal from Amazon, it looks like they’ll get it. Whether all this is a good thing depends on where along the publishing supply chain you and your sympathies may be, but right now, there’s one clear loser, and that’s the consumer.
