Interesting speculation, but it misses a key point of the “toaster fridge” perspective, which has more to do with user experience than hardware configurations; an iPad with a detachable keyboard is still an iPad (see this page for the full Time article)

I know Tim Cook has denounced this type of design, suggesting it is like attaching a 'toaster to a refrigerator,' but a sleek and elegant iPad/keyboard device designed by Apple would be of interest to a lot of people, myself included."
