Adobe soars on hope for a deal with Microsoft - The Boston Globe

Strange days indeed

The New York Times reported that Ballmer recently visited Adobe chief executive Shantanu Narayen in San Francisco. Their discussion centered on Apple Inc.’s control of the mobile-phone market and how the two companies could work together to compete, the newspaper reported. A possible acquisition of Adobe by Microsoft was among the options reportedly discussed.

Adobe’s stock rose $2.96, or 12 percent, to $28.69 yesterday. Earlier in the session, the shares had jumped as high as $30, triggering a five-minute halt in trading. The stock has declined 22 percent this year.
