In a couple of weeks there will be a new competitor thrown into the mobile melting pot: the Windows Phone 7. And although this new platform will offer a genuine alternative to the iPhone, it will most likely pose a real threat to Google’s Android platform.

Brian Chen, a Wired reporter, summed this up in a recent article, saying that Windows Phone 7 was going to make the Android platform “look chaotic.” Mr. Chen said that the crucial part of Microsoft’s phone strategy was “the quality control it imposes onto its hardware partners.” In contrast, Google allows manufacturers to do whatever they want in terms of phone design and user interface.
