A timely reality check (via Louis Gray on Buzz); read the full post. The 216-slide presentation looks excellent, from a quick skim, and the summary points in the source post are also very useful. I see nothing in this context that suggests Google has major near-term potential to disrupt Facebook, however; if Facebook does have social networking “chinks” to address, I believe it will be able to do so much more readily than Google will be able to leapfrog Facebook’s current market position. Indeed, I suspect the Paul Adams presentation was received -- by Facebook’s designers -- as useful constructive criticism.
Paul Adams, lead for User Research for Social at Google, shared a presentation a few days back that was picked up by Venture Beat among others. I am sharing it here along with my own thoughts as I think it deserves a closer look.
Why? Because:
- Paul currently works on Buzz and YouTube
- Google is rumored to be working on Google Me, a rival network to Facebook
