WSJ.com - DVD Group to Use Microsoft Technology

WSJ.com - DVD Group to Use Microsoft Technology "The Blu-ray Disc Association, one of two leading contenders for the next-generation DVD, said it would include Microsoft Corp. compression technology in its proposed format. Because Microsoft had already gotten its video software into the competing next-generation DVD format, the Blu-ray move assures the software giant a role in what is likely to be one of the hottest consumer products of the next few years. Getting involved helps Microsoft in its goal of extending its reach beyond the personal computer. The Blu-ray camp is led by Sony Corp.; its rival, known as HD-DVD, is led by Toshiba Corp. The DVDs, scheduled to hit the market next year, will deliver high-resolution movies and other content to homes."
