"“We consume news so we can see what’s changed in the world to see if it’s a threat or an opportunity,” Williams said. “Very often it isn’t a threat or an opportunity; it’s just noise.”
News is part of shaping your world, Williams said, “in a very destructive way that makes us believe things that aren’t even true.”
He argued that platforms like Medium, which combine curated content with posts written by people who are experts in their own fields, can lead the news industry into the future. It shows that there’s power in giving everyone a voice, and letting the best rise to the top, rather than allowing content to be driven by page views and ad revenue."
