Large Retailers Push Amazon on Taxes - WSJ.com

It was nice while it lasted…

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp. and other large retailers are ratcheting up a political campaign to force Amazon.com Inc. to collect sales taxes, sensing opportunity in the budget crises gripping statehouses nationwide.

The big-box stores are backing a coalition called the Alliance for Main Street Fairness, which is leading efforts to change sales-tax laws in more than a dozen states including Texas and California.

Incredible to think taxes are going to do anything but push away the fantastic amount of Amazon Ecommerce trade. They can advertise their products worldwide without conplicating the checkout process with different taxes and fees. Why would they bother rewriting pages of code for anyone? What they have now works and I'm sure that retailers would love to take away any of the benefits of purchasing products online. What happens now when other online retailers move in where Amazon pulls out? Are you going to try to tax everyone who markets on the internet? I surely hope someone will tell these crying retailers to quit whining and push there own products online. They are the ones who seem to think that there's a problem.
