Google and Amazon Increasingly at Odds Over E-Books - Bits Blog - NYTimes.com

More on the brewing book battle

Amazon’s filing was made just days before the deadline for briefs in support or opposition to the settlement. On Wednesday, the judge overseeing the case extended that deadline from Friday to Tuesday, to accommodate a scheduled maintenance of the court’s electronic filing system. A comprehensive log of the filings to date is available here.

Prominent names in the publishing world are continuing to line up on opposite sites of the issue. Google said that the estate of Dr. Seuss is planning to file a letter in support of the agreement. Arlo Guthrie, the folk singer and author, has filed a brief opposing it.

UPDATE 7:30 PM Another important objection to the settlement was filed Wednesday by the American Society of Media Photographers and other groups, who argue that their members will not be compensated even though their works are covered by the settlement.
