The possibility of an apology by Brown was a hot topic among Twitter users, and his decision to do just that generated a flood of tweets. The response was overwhelmingly favorable on that medium.

On other forums, such as the BBC’s Web site, the reaction was more mixed. Some posters pointed to Brown’s political motivations and suggested it is illogical to single out this single victim of gay persecution for an apology, when countless others–such as playwright Oscar Wilde–got no such official contrition.
