This is likely to become an important precedent

“We are continuing to collect information about BART’s actions and will be taking steps to hear from stakeholders about the important issues those actions raised, including protecting public safety and ensuring the availability of communications networks”, said FCC spokesman Neil Grace.

BART’s shutdown triggered complaints to the agency by technologists who said they couldn’t recall a similar act in the US, a debate about its legality, and a hacking protest by members of the activist group Anonymous.
