Yahoo deal puts IBM, Microsoft in enterprise search pickle

Hmm – maybe no immediate impact, as an IBMer quoted later in the article asserted, but if 400+ Yahoo! employees focused on search are going to move to Microsoft, if the deal wins regulatory approval, that may have implications for future IBM/Yahoo! search endeavors.

Yahoo's decision to use Microsoft's Bing search engine could cause a "strange bedfellows" competitive conflict between Microsoft and IBM in the enterprise search market.

Yahoo and IBM have offered since late 2006 a free, entry-level enterprise search product called IBM OmniFind Yahoo Edition, for which Yahoo provides a user interface component as well as Web search. That IBM-Yahoo product competes directly against the also-free Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express.

If Yahoo and Microsoft together can't beat Google no one has a chance.
