White House Moves to Protect Data Privacy - Digits - WSJ

Busy cyber-politics heading into the 1/20 State of the Union

"President Obama announced on Monday a package of legislative proposals aimed at safeguarding privacy across sectors including education, energy, and tech.

The education bill, the Student Digital Privacy Act, would bar tech companies that manage and analyze student data from selling it to third parties that use it for anything other than educational purposes, and from engaging in targeted advertising to kids. Most of the key language in the education proposal became law in California last year

Seventy five companies have already signed on to the proposal, including Silicon Valley giants Apple, Inc. and Microsoft Corp. and ClassDojo, a startup that provides teaching tools."
