Apple unveils cloud computing service - The Boston Globe

A perspective on Apple’s news yesterday

Michael Gartenberg, a New Jersey-based analyst for research firm Gartner Inc., said iCloud represents a sea change in Apple’s corporate vision, moving away from an emphasis on the stand-alone personal computer.

“They’re demoting the Mac, and promoting the cloud as the new hub,’’ Gartenberg said.

Gartenberg said Apple is trying to be the first to unify cloud computing and mobile devices, raising concerns over security and the cost of using cellular data services.
