Foray for Hollywood: Facebook | Good Morning Silicon Valley

Facebook friends a studio

An elephant has just entered the digital living room, and its name is Facebook. Warner Bros. announced Monday that for $3, or 30 Facebook Credits, consumers can watch “The Dark Knight” on Facebook over a 48-hour rental period. The Hollywood Reporter says Warner’s test is a first for a major Hollywood studio, and that Warner will roll out more movies for rent and for sale on Facebook in the next few months.

It was inevitable that full-length Hollywood movies would join news, music and short video clips on Facebook’s media menu. Hollywood couldn’t ignore the obvious distribution advantage of showing movies on a site hundreds of millions of people already visit regularly.
