Hackers' attacks alarm Web - The Boston Globe

A different type of involuntary transparency

While the coordinated hacking of companies that have cut ties to WikiLeaks has done relatively little damage to their businesses so far, it has nonetheless shown how easily sophisticated attackers can pierce at least the outer layer of online security defenses at major Internet operations.

Internet hackers sympathetic to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange launched focused attacks on the websites of credit card companies Visa and MasterCard and the online payment processor PayPal.com.

Lets see how impressed you are when the GOVT intelligence agencies use their own Wiki Leaks cyberwar operation as justification to take down the internet and censor it heavily. Joe Lieberman already has that legislation written and in committee. Wow, have you ever seen Congress so efficient? Maybe only on the Patriot Act- 1500 pages of which was already on their desks, ready to go on Sept 12 ?

I appreciate your comment and share your concerns. Tim Wu's "The Master Switch" is an excellent resource to explore in this context, for a long-term perspective.
