Two more bookstores closing in Harvard Square
Beyond its effect on the Harvard Square environment, the shuttering of all these bookstores is a sign of the profound tradeoffs society has made in exchange for the convenience of technology. Now, customers can easily shop for books that are rare or out of print, compare prices at the click of a mouse, and even preview books without physically holding them. But this revolution has brought with it a price, and it’s looking more and more likely that today’s young people will never know the joy of casually browsing through a bookstore.
And no amount of convenience can make up for that.
