I just finished re-reading Neal Stephenson's 1999 "In the Beginning ... Was the Command Line". You can download the full essay/quasi-book here or purchase it as a paperback book. Stephenson is an exceptionally insightful person and an outstanding writer, and the essay captures many important themes about open source, operating systems, Apple, Microsoft, and more.
It's a quick and timely read; go for it...
