"Touch ID isn’t about security. It’s about convenience. Touch ID does for the lock screen what Time Machine did for backups. It’s not the strongest solution available, but almost all consumers will see it as a more livable solution. The whole point is to get people to perform regular backups of their data, dammit, and to secure their phones with pass codes, ditto. Many people don’t bother securing their phones at all.
