But an organization called Random Hacks of Kindness is attempting to take hacking’s traditional 1960s-era MIT definition of computer technology prowess and combine it with the idea of coding for the greater good.
Earlier this month in a Random Hacks of Kindness event, coders holed up in hotels, offices and schools from Philadelphia to Jakarta, Indonesia, for a “hackathon” to build apps that addressed humanitarian problems.
