Google Buys Picnik, a Photo Editing Service - Bits Blog - NYTimes.com

Hmm…

In a post on Google’s official blog, Brian Axe, a Google product manager, laid out the reason for the purchase:

More than ever before, people are sharing and storing their photos online. But until recently, you had to edit your photos using client software on your computer. Today, we’re excited to announce that Google has acquired Picnik, one of the first sites to bring photo editing to the cloud.

The sale puts Google in yet another competing business with Adobe, going up against Photoshop.com, and with Apple and the basic photo editing tools within iPhoto.
