The invisible hand slaps eBay iPhone speculators...
Except for one: A true shortage. Despite the media hype, long lines and huge sales, the shimmering handhelds remain available for sale in some Apple and AT&T stores and at both companies' Web sites.
As of Monday evening, there were still more than 5,000 unclaimed iPhones on eBay (nasdaq: EBAY - news - people ), mostly of the 8-gigabyte variety. On Sunday, a blogger at Newsvine analyzed data on the iPhone auctions and said that 52% of iPhones on the site didn't sell. The median profit for iPhone sellers was a measly $34.16.
