WSJ.com - Tech Firms Aid EU's Microsoft Case

WSJ.com - Tech Firms Aid EU's Microsoft Case: "Five major technology companies have applied as a group to intervene against Microsoft Corp. in its court appeal of a European antitrust order, an effort to increase pressure on the software giant and bolster European regulators in a crucial phase of the long-running case.
The companies include International Business Machines Corp., Oracle Corp., Red Hat Inc., RealNetworks Inc. and Nokia Corp., according to a person familiar with the situation.
All of the companies want to ensure competition in the market for computer operating systems. Microsoft now essentially holds a monopoly in one of those markets -- operating systems for desktop PCs -- and the European Union regulatory case is aimed at preventing the Redmond, Wash., company from parlaying that dominance into other areas, such as operating systems for office servers, hand-held computing devices and cellphones."
