WSJ.com - Google Maps to Use Satellite Images

WSJ.com - Google Maps to Use Satellite Images: "Google Inc. plans to begin letting users plot driving directions and pinpoint locations on detailed satellite maps, upping the stakes in its competition with Yahoo Inc., America Online Inc.'s MapQuest.com, Microsoft Corp.'s MSN unit and other online mapping and search services.
As of today, consumers will be able to see their driving directions overlaid on aerial photographs and see search results for local businesses and other locations plotted out on such aerial images. The new features are the fruit of Google's October acquisition of digital mapping company Keyhole Corp., which has offered some of the functions to users of its Keyhole fee-based service. Consumers will continue to be to see locations plotted on Google's traditional maps."
