WSJ.com - Dell's Profit Climbs 29% On Strong Demand for PCs Dell Inc.'s profit rose 29%, boosted by a surge in shipments overseas and strong demand for its servers.
Rock, Texas, computer giant reported net income of $799 million, or 31 cents a share, for its fiscal second quarter ended July 30. That compares with a profit of $621 million, or 24 cents a share, in the same quarter last year.

The results were in line with analysts' expectations, according to a survey by Thomson First Call.
Global product shipments rose 19%, led by a 30% jump in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Asia-Pacific and Japan had a 28% increase in shipments.
Server shipments increased 31% and notebook shipments rose 28%. Revenue from software and peripheral products climbed 31%, driven by printer demand."
